"Remember the Goliad, Remember the Alamo."

When General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna attacked the the Alamo, early on the morning of March 6, 1836, he had no idea that years later the battle cry which gave the newly independent country of Texas it's courage to defeat his cause would still echo through the streets.

He took no prisoners that day and all the men who fought for Texas independence within the walls of the Alamo breathed their last. However, he did not gain the ultimate victory. Today the cries of "Remember Goliad, Remember the Alamo." still echoe through the streets. Young Texans think on days gone by, and go away inspired by the courage of the past, ready if need be to face forces bigger than themselves and to defend the future.

Last weekend I had the honor of walking through the structure where heros such as James Bowie, David Crockett, and William B. Travis gave their last breath in defence of a cause. The cause of freedom. As Texan pride swells in my heart. I am thankful for the battle that these brave men fought. May Texans always hear the battle cry, "Remember Goliad, Remember the Alamo." as they walk through it's halls and may the cause of freedom be forever in our hearts.
