How I was saved

The Lord Jesus Christ became my Savour on New Years' Day, 1888. The time was
7:24pm. The invitation was playing in our small Baptist church just as it
did on every other Sunday but on this night there was something different;
something more than just the ordinary. That something was Jesus Christ
knocking on the door of my heart. I knew that the Lord was asking to be my
Lord, he was assuring me that his blood would cover the stains in my heart.
Yet I did not go forward. I was afraid. Afraid of what my friends might
say, afraid that I would get in trouble for leaving my seat, afraid of what
people might think.
The Lord worked with my heart through the rest of the church service, and I
began to overcome my fear of people and wonder if I would ever be able to
ask about how to give Jesus my life. As soon as the last prayer was said at
church I ran to where my mother was playing at the piano and told her that I
wanted Jesus to take over my life. She led me to the pastor who showed me
verses in the Bible about Christ and the price he paid in order to keep
people from being seperated from him.
You see God is perfect. He created the heavens and the earth and all that is
in them. He created us in a wonderful way giving us the capabilities to
think and reason. He allows us to meet with him and know his plans but as I
said before he is perfect.

This perfection, seperates us from him, because he will not look at sin.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23 that "all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God.
We are not able to associate with God because of this sin. The problem with
sin is that it leads to death.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal
life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Christ knew that we would all sin, and that this sin would seperate us from
him and end in death. He made a provision for this."But God commendeth his
love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8.
He knew that all would die but he did not want them to be eternally
seperated from himself so he he gave us his son who shed his blood inorder
to cover our sins. John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world that he gave
his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not parish but
have everlasting life."
He says in John 1:12 "But as many as recieved him, to them gave he power to
become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.
"If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in
thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved."
We can only be saved through his cleansing power, that is to say his amazing
grace. "For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves
it is a gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast." Ephesians
2:8-9

We see then that to become a Christian you must first admit that you are a
sinner. We learn from The Bible in Romans 3:23 that everyone has sinned.
This sin keeps us from being with God because he cannot look at sin. We know
from Ephesians 2:8-9 that you cannot earn your way to heaven so this sin
also means that we would die , go to hell, and be eternally seperated from
God.
John 3:16-17 tells us that God loves us and wants us to live in heaven when
we die. In order to save us someone without sin had to die in our place to
pay for our sins. There was no one who could do that here on earth so the
Lord sent his only son to die in our place. We see that in Romans 5:8. This
was the only way that our sins could be forgiven and removed.
Finally, you must pray. You need to tell God that you are a sinner and that
you believe his Son Jesus died on the cross for your sins. You must ask him
to forgive you and to come into your life. Tell him that you want him to be
in charge of your life. If you do this you will become a child of God as he
promised in John 1:12.
